We walk past mirrors every single day — in the bathroom, near the front door, in our car visor, in shop windows. But here’s the real question…

How often do you actually see yourself?

Not your eyeliner placement.
Not whether your shirt is sitting right.
Not if your hair needs a quick fix.

I mean really see YOU.

Because what the mirror reflects isn’t nearly as powerful as what you believe that reflection means.

Most mornings we “use” the mirror to apply makeup, to make adjustments, to get ready.

But during those moments, we’re not connecting.

We’re not meeting our own gaze.

We’re not acknowledging the person inside the body.

We’re rushing.

We’re performing.

We’re looking through ourselves.

And then — we go through the rest of the day the same way… present physically, but disconnected internally.

There’s a brilliant book called Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. As a plastic surgeon, he noticed something shocking:

Changing someone’s appearance didn’t automatically change how they felt.
They still believed the same insecurities.
They kept searching for more changes to fix what was internal.

He realized that humans have two self-images:

The version of ourselves we project to the world

The version we secretly believe we are inside

And here’s the kicker:

The inner self-image is what determines our results, our confidence, our joy, our energy. Every time.

So… What Happens When You Look in the Mirror?

I’m running a little experiment with you.

Next time you pass a mirror — pause.
Don’t rush. Don’t adjust.
Just look yourself in the eyes.
Changing someone’s appearance didn’t automatically change how they felt.
They still believed the same insecurities.
They kept searching for more changes to fix what was internal.

Ask:

What do I believe about the person looking back at me?
Do I see someone worthy? Powerful? Loved?
Or do I only see flaws and improvements to be made?

Your answer matters.

Because the relationship you have with the person in the mirror sets the tone for every other relationship you’ll ever experience.
